Ralita
OUR NLLB ANGEL
Ralita was NLLB's first burn victim sent to the United States for surgery. Ralita was burned at the age of 5 by a kerosene lantern. The scars from Ralita's burns on her arm restricted her movement for 12 years before she recieved treatment. Her severe scarring had caused her right shoulder to be 4 inches lower than the left, and was not able to raise her right arm normally.
Her surgery took place in January of 2007. She received 9 surgeries, after which, she regained the ability to raise her right arm above her head without ripping her skin. Additionally, her scoliosis had nearly completely corrected. However, due to the development of skin cancer (a complication from her severe burns), she died in August of 2008.
