Widodo
Widodo was born in a remote, small village in Sumatra, Indonesia. He was born with a congenital clubfoot. No treatment was available to him in the area he lives. He learned to walk on the side of his foot.
In 2010, NLLB learned about Widods’s condition and went about seeking medical care for his foot. The discovery of a doctor in Singapore who used a series of casts to correct club feet offered Widodo a future with a straight foot. This doctor donated his services.
Singapore American School’s 1X1 Club helped fund Widodo’s foot correction. NLLB continues follow-up with Widodo and his foot remains straightened. He runs and plays soccer and enjoys books, supplied by NLLB.
Widodo received 3 casts and a temporary plastic brace/splint. We also supplied him with good quality shoes, books (a rare object in many of these areas) and vitamins. Today, he no longer wear’s a splint and his foot remains straight. He is doing well in school and NLLB continues to visit.
As you can imagine, Widodo’s parents are so pleased with the results of his foot, with his changed life. The total cost for Widodo’s care (logistics, shoes, a splint, vitamins, worm medicine, lice shampoo and milk powder). The total cost to change Widodo’s life was USD $ 625.85. The majority of Widodo’s care was funded by a small group of international high school students through the help of NLLB. The smallest of groups can make the most dramatic differences in the lives of others. NLLB often partners with others to bring change to
the lives of those we help.
